When taken daily, Beyaz can help prevent pregnancy. Each Beyaz pack contains 24 hormone pills and 4 reminder pills. It also contains 400 Mcg of folic acid, which is recommended for women of reproductive age.
Beyaz is FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved to treat moderate acne, and Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD); however, Beyaz has not been shown to be an effective treatment for Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS).
The drug ‘Drospirenone’ suppresses the secretion of the hormones that regulate the body’s water and electrolytes, which may cause higher potassium levels in the body. Because of this, Beyaz has the potential to cause serious heart and health problems. Beyaz can also increase the risk of blood clots, and stroke.
Beyaz Side Effects:
The most common Beyaz side effects are – Irritability, Nausea, Breast Tenderness, Weight Gain, Menstrual Irregularities, Mood Changes, Headaches, Fatigue, and Decreased Libido.
Bayer HealthCare (the manufacturer of Beyaz) warns, “Do not use Beyaz if you smoke cigarettes and are over 35 years old. Smoking increases your risk of serious cardiovascular side effects (heart and blood vessel problems) from birth control pills, including death from a heart attack, blood clots or stroke. This risk increases with age and the number of cigarettes you smoke.”
Bayer updated their product information for Beyaz to say, “Woman who use birth control pills with Drospirenone may have a higher risk of getting a blood clot. Some studies reported that the risk of blood clots was higher for women who use birth control pills that contain Drospirenone than for women who use birth control pills that do not contain Drospirenone. Blood clots can be life-threatening or lead to permanent disability. Talk to your healthcare provider about your risk of blood clots before deciding which pill is right for you.”
