BeYaz is a pill form of birth control, it was approved to prevent pregnancy, and is 99% effective when taken as directed.

BeYaz is sometimes prescribed for:

  • A daily dose of folate supplementation for women in their reproductive years
  • Treatment of PMDD -or- Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
  • Treatment of moderate acne in women over the age of 14

“Women who use birth control pills with drospirenone (like Beyaz) may have a higher risk of getting a blood clot. Some studies reported that the risk of blood clots was higher for women who use birth control pills that contain drospirenone than for women who use birth control pills that do not contain drospirenone. Blood clots can be life-threatening or lead to permanent disability. Talk to your healthcare provider about your risk of blood clots before deciding which Pill is right for you.”

Drospirenone is a synthetic progestin hormone that prevents ovulation, causes changes in the cervical and uterine lining, and suppresses the secretion of the hormones that regulate the body’s water and electrolytes, among other things.

BeYaz has been linked with an increased risk of blood clots and DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) what can potentially cause a women to have serious adverse effects including, but not limited to:  Heart attack, Stroke, Pulmonary embolism and even Death.  Smoking will increase these serious adverse effects especially in women over the age of 35.

Yaz, Yasmin, BeYaz and Ocella increase the risk of pulmonary embolism by 74%

Yaz and Yasmin were ranked second highest in 2011 for the number of complications reported to the FDA, (Food and Drug Administration) according to the QuarterWatch report from the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices.

Bayer, the manufacturer of Yaz and Yasmin has started settling some injury claims due to the use of Yaz and Yasmin at an average of $212,000 per case.

The Yaz Resource Center (a patient advocacy group) has been alerting women with questions about Yaz that the birth control drug has been linked to blood clot injuries.

Yaz is a birth control pill or oral contraceptive that contains the synthetic female hormone, progesterone called “drospirenone”.

Drospirenone, is a dangerous drug that causes many adverse effects including, DVT (deep vein thrombosis) and blood clots which in turn can cause heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolisms and even death.

Birth control pills containing drospirenone include:

Yaz, Yasmin, BeYaz, Ocella, Yasminelle, Zarah and Angeliq

Bayer AG, the manufacturer of yaz and yasmin announced settlements totaling over $400,000 U.S. dollars as of August 2012.  There have been at least 1,900 cases resolved claiming the birth control pills caused heart attacks and/or strokes.  Bayer AG, paid out an average of $212,000 U.S. dollars per case.

Birth control pills containing drospirenone are required to include the following information:

A summary of previously released results of the FDA funded study regarding the blood clot risk, and that some epidemiologic studies show as high as a threefold increased risk for blood clots for birth control pills containing drospirenone.
