FDA Warns Oral Contraceptives – Yaz, Yasmin – Have High Risk Of Blood Clots

Oral contraceptives that contain drospirenone have a threefold increase for risk of blood clots

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) “has concluded that drospirenone containing birth control pills may be associated with a higher risk for blood clots than other progestin containing pills.”

Nine oral contraceptives containing 3mg of drospirenone and either 0.02 or 0.03 mg of ethinyl estradiol, will now note the risk of blood clots on their labels.  The oral contraceptives include:  Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella, Zarah, Beyaz, Gianvi, Syeda, Loryna, Safyral.
