Yaz Birth Control Side Effects Lawyer

Yasmin, the popular prescription contraceptive marketed and distributed by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals as “Yaz” has been linked to a number of serious side effects.

A Yasmin lawsuit attorney is a product liability lawyer who assists clients who have been harmed by a dangerous pharmaceutical or misled by deceptive marketing information. Under FDA pressure, Bayer recently backtracked on its claims regarding what the Yasmin birth control pill can and cannot do.

Non-FDA-approved Marketing of Yasmin

In Yasmin birth control lawsuits, an attorney protects the legal rights of women who were led to believe that taking Yasmin could eliminate their PMS (premenstrual syndrome) or that Yasmin could be used solely to clear up acne.

These claims by Bayer Healthcare – seen by millions of Americans over several months through television ads – were retracted after the FDA demanded that Bayer restrict its marketing of Yasmin to only FDA-approved applications of the drug.

Shortly thereafter, Yasmin’s television commercials changed significantly. The new version even features a woman acknowledging that “you may have seen some Yaz commercials recently that were not clear… the FDA wants us to correct a few points of those ads.” She goes on to clarify that Yasmin is approved to treat PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), not PMS.

Additionally, the commercial points out that Yasmin is not approved for maintaining clear skin and that there are a number of health risks and side effects associated with Yasmin use.

Yaz Side Effects

Virtually all prescription medicine introduces a risk of side effects. The common contraceptive, Yaz is no exception. Yaz and Yazmin (Yasmin)

Yaz and Yazmin (Yasmin) are oral contraceptives (birth control pills) manufactured by Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceutical

Yasmin and Yaz are oral contraceptives (birth control pills) manufactured for the prevention of pregnancy.  Yasmin was approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in 2001, Yaz was approved by the FDA in 2006.  Yaz and Yasmin prevent pregnancy by combining estrogen and a synthetic progestin known as “drospirenone”.

Drospirenone is a dangerous drug.  According to the FDA birth control pills containing drospirenone may be associated with a significantly higher risk of blood clots or DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis) than birth control pills that do not contain drospirenone.  Since blood clots move through the body, there may be a threefold increased risk for heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism and even death due to DVT.

Women who are otherwise completely healthy, have experienced injuries and side effects after taking Yaz, Yasmin or Ocella.  In fact, Yasmin and Yaz have been linked to fifty deaths and hundreds of injuries.

Yaz and Yasmin lawsuit settlements have reached $402 million, Bayer AG pays out an average of $212 thousand per Yaz and Yasmin case, and has put aside a reserve of $610.5 million to settle Yaz and Yasmin cases.
